The Mizo National Front (MNF) suffered a significant setback, securing only 10 seats, as the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), the main opposition, claimed 27 out of the 40-member House. The Zoramthanga-led government, comprising 12 ministers, saw Home Minister Lalchamliana abstaining from contesting this election. Mizoram Chief Minister and MNF leader Zoramthanga conceded the Aizawl East-I seat to ZPM's Lalthansanga, trailing by 2,101 votes.
