It’s official: Xi Jinping to skip G20 summit; India says won’t hit event

Chinese President Xi Jinping will not come for the G20 summit, official sources confirmed Saturday but said it won’t affect the event in any way. US President Joe Biden had expressed hope earlier this week that Xi would show up at the event.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the G20 Summit in India which is scheduled to take place on September 9 and 10 in the national capital, instead of President Xi Jinping. That would make him the second major leader after Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to skip the event.
