Sulphur is a common element in the solar system, but it is rare on the Moon. So, its presence in the south pole region is thought to be a sign of the presence of water ice. Water ice is important because it could be a source of water for future human exploration of the Moon. It could also be used to produce fuel and oxygen for...

Chandrayaan-3: 'Pragyan' rover detects presence of Suphur and other essential elements on moon
In a significant breakthrough, the Pragyan rover of the Chandrayaan-3 mission has "unambiguously" confirmed the presence of sulphur in the Moon's surface near the south pole. Isro said on the social media platform X, that the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument onboard the Rover unambiguously confirms the presence of sulphur (S) on the lunar surface near the south pole, through first-ever in-situ measurements." So far, there were no direct evidences about the presence of sulphur on the lunar surface. . The discovery was made using the rover's Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS). The confirmation of Sulphur’s presence is significant as it could hint to the presence of water ice on the south pole region of the moon. Water ice is thought to be trapped in the permanently shadowed craters of the south pole region. #Pragyanroverfindssulphur #Chandrayaan3 #Chandrayaanmission ~PR.153~HT.95~ED.102~
