Kargil Vijay Diwas: Meet IAF's Sreevidya Rajan, Kargil's unsung hero who flew with Gunjan Saxena, saved soldiers' lives

Preparations are underway at Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh for the celebrations of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 25. July 26 is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas every year to observe India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999. This year, India will celebrate 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil War was one of the toughest wars fought in the most inhospitable conditions, both due to its geographical and climatic conditions. During the war, the Indian Army recaptured the strategic peaks of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Point 4875, among others. The Kargil War had many unsung heroes, and one of them was former IAF pilot Sreevidya Rajan, who was one of the first female pilots to fly in the war.

Gunjan Saxena and Sreevidya Rajan were both IAF pilots who saved the lives of dozens of soldiers during the Kargil War between India and Pakistan in 1999.
