On Monday morning, a collision between the Kanchenjunga Express passenger train and a goods train in Darjeeling, West Bengal, resulted in eight deaths and 25 injuries. The incident occurred around 9 am when the goods train overshot a signal and struck the rear of the Kanchenjunga Express, causing the derailment. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) CPRO Sabyasachi De confirmed the injuries were non-fatal, and rescue operations are ongoing. Senior officials have arrived at the site, and efforts are being made to complete the rescue swiftly. Local ambulances and rescue teams, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), are assisting at the scene. Authorities have set up a control desk at Rangapani station to manage the situation and provided helpline numbers for families.
