COVID-19: India reports 22 cases of Covid's JN.1 variant till December 21

Kerala was the first state to report the JN.1 Covid variant reported 265 fresh Covid-19 infections and one death in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

On Friday, India witnessed a surge in its active Covid-19 caseload, nearing the 3,000-mark, with one reported death in Kerala. This increase follows the detection of the first case of the sub-variant JN.1, as per data from the Union Health Ministry. The active cases rose to 2,997 from the previous day's 2,669, and the death toll reached 5,33,328, with one individual from Kerala succumbing to the virus. The case fatality rate stands at 1.18 percent, according to the ministry.
