Bill to appoint Chief Election Commissioner, top ECI officials gets nod from Lok Sabha

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that the 1991 Act on the service conditions of top poll officers was a rushed effort and that the current Bill addresses the provisions that the earlier legislation did not address during the Lok Sabha's debate of the legislation today.

Bill on Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner & Election Commissioners passed in LS | Oneindia
On Thursday, a crucial bill was passed to regulate the appointment and service terms of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and election commissioners. The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023 was successfully passed by the Lok Sabha after a brief but impactful debate. The bill had already received approval from the Rajya Sabha last week.
