Israel hits Iran with ‘missile attack’ near nuclear site as markets watch oil prices

Iranian air defence batteries were launched on Friday morning after explosions near the city of Isfahan, in the centre of the country, according to its state-run IRNA agency.

The Israeli strike on a military base near the Iranian city of Isfahan was part of a cycle of retaliation that has alarmed world leaders. But it produced a largely muted response from both sides. While the strikes were confirmed by both Israeli and Iranian officials, both countries played down the significance of it. In Israel, officials described the strike as a limited response designed to avoid escalating tensions. Iran said military and nuclear facilities in Isfahan were safe. Days after Iran launched an unprecedented missile and drone attack on Israel, multiple explosions were reported Isfahan which is also the site of Iran's nuclear facilities. Iranian air defenses intercepted three drones but there were no reports of a missile attack.
