Employees Are Resentful About , Return to Office Mandates, , Survey Finds.
'Fortune' reports that many organizations are
abandoning remote work in favor of returning
to the office full-time or introducing hybrid
models with part-time in-office hours. .
According to a recent survey by
BetterUp, the number of primarily
remote roles has been cut in half.
The survey found that one out of four organizations
cited improved connection and culture as the
reasoning behind mandating a return to the office.
However, another survey by 'Fortune'
found that returning to the office often
causes a major disruption to people's routines,
their work and overall experience of life. .
A survey of 1,400 full-time U.S. employees
found that those who were mandated
to return to the office had higher levels of burnout,
stress and desire to seek employment elsewhere.
Mandated return-to-office orders also were found
to result in lower trust in the organization, reduced
engagement and declines in productivity levels.
'Fortune' found that the most
challenging aspect of returning to the
office for most people was the commute.
This falls in line with research that
suggests commutes of just 30 minutes
have been linked with higher stress and anger. .
Commutes of 45 minutes or longer
have been linked to reduced overall
well-being, mood and health.
The second-most challenging aspect of returning to
work was found to be the loss of flexibility to accomplish
home tasks, like doing laundry, while also working.
