Taiwan’s “Dangerous Separatist” Lai Eyes “Steady” Approach Against China’s ‘Carrots & Sticks’ Game
Lai Ching-te, Taiwan’s fifth elected president, is set to be sworn in on May 20 and will deliver his inaugural address in front of the Presidential Office.
During his address, Lai is set to pledge stability by maintaining the status quo in its relationship with China.
Lai Ching-te will take office after he won a historic third successive presidential term for the independence-leaning DPP in January’s elections.
According to Taiwanese lawmaker Puma Shen, who sits on parliament's foreign affairs and defence committee, Lai wants to show Taiwan is not a "troublemaker." However, Shen also added that “no matter what he says during the inauguration, China will always disagree.” Watch the video to find out more.
