Indian-American Vanita Gupta has been nominated as the Associate Attorney General of US by president-elect Joe Biden.
The news back home has generated happiness for her family.
Gupta's uncle Sarvesh Kumar, who lives in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, has called the nomination a "matter of great pride" for them as well as the country, and said her niece has always been fighting for people of colour.
"Nomination of an Indian-American for such a high post is a matter of great pride for us as well for the country.
She has always been fighting for people of colour," Sarvesh Kumar told reporters as he cheered for her niece.
