Former owner of Zoe in court

The former owner of zoe, the german shepherd who chewed off her own leg, appeared in exeter town court tonight... but not for very long.

59-year-old carl pritchard was supposed to be arraigned tonight, but the judge tells newschannel 2 that he recused himself from the case.

Judge steven myer says he used to be a state trooper, and he had numerous amount of professional contact with pritchard.

He says once he read the case and recognized the defendant, he says there was a conflict of interest.

Judge myer says the case will go to d-a's office and go to a county judge who will then reassign it to another court.

He said due to the holidays, that will most likely be in 4-6 weeks.

Pritchard is charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, and- failure to provide proper sustenance.
