(SOUNDBITE) (English) SONNY BILL WILLIAMS SAYING: "In my understanding it was pretty much around the World Cup time, that's when I was first made aware of it.

Obviously the lads in the teams I've been playing for were giving me stick but I hadn't heard anything from the club.

Once it all came about it came to fruition really quickly.

But for myself I just go back to the conversations that I had with Brian (McDermott, Toronto Wolfpack head coach), for me, yes I'm a sportsman, but I need to have that purpose, something I really believe in, and just his philosophy, how he wants to play the game, I feel like the way I strive to play the game, I could be really suited to their style of play." STORY: New Toronto Wolfpack signing Sonny Bill Williams said on Thursday (November 14) that he only made the decision to join the Rugby Super League club after the New Zealand All Blacks were knocked out of the Rugby World Cup.

A long-time member of the famed All Blacks, who has won the Rugby World Cup twice and represented New Zealand at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Williams is a rugby superstar of the highest order.

Williams, who has jumped between codes playing both rugby union and rugby league, has reportedly signed a $10 million two-year deal with the Wolfpack.

Rugby league's only trans-Atlantic club, the Wolfpack will make their Super League debut in England on Feb.

2 having won promotion to the top tier last month by beating Featherstone Rovers in the Championship playoff final.
