Diamond city.

((mark)) two homes are in ruins after a massive, smoky fire in wilkes-barre.

Flames broke this afternoon around 12:30 at a home at auburn and north franklin streets.

Six people and several pets were in the house at the time.

Two men were able to get two children and three dogs out of the home.

No word on other animals.

According to one man in the house, the fire started in the basement.

He told us flames quickly rose to the top and spread to a neighboring home.

(omari lashley - wilkes-barre) "we smelled something but we didn't think too much of it, so jamal came grabbed the kids and was like there's a fire downstairs in the basement.

So they ran out and we were upstairs thinking fire in the basement?

So we tried like running downstairs to see what happened and then we saw all the flames coming up."

Lashley said he grabbed some water and ran to the basement to try to put out the fire but the flames were too intense.

So far, no word on the cause of this fire in the diamond
