They can't make too much , they can't can't make too little .

They fall within that."

Don lewis is the chief operating officer for the city of tupelo.

He showed me plans for a little over seventy -six and three bedroom homes on this property on ida street and on this one on monument drive next to hillsdale apartments.

"they're designed for the working family.

Probably some of them are going to range from about 110-thousand to 150- thousand."

But lewis says there is a catch to owning the properties that might help some people.

"in the first fifteen years they will be rental property.

So it will be rental property and it will be managed by these companies."

Lewis says that after the fifteen years is over the tenants will have a chance to buy the property.

He says the companies could start advertising for tenants by the end of the year.

This is all part of a project that the city started by buying the properties destroying the old apartments ,selling it to the developers, and putting that money back into the city's capital fund.

The contractors are working with the federal government to build the single-family homes.

The homes are scheduled to be built by late spring or summer of 2020.

The builders have a certain time line, lewis says, because they are using state and federal money.

Lewis says they are also looking at future plans for more such housing.
