Facebook Ordered to Pay $5 Billion Over Privacy Breaches The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced the settlement following its investigation.

The investigation focused on the mishandling of personal data and communications with users.

It is the largest fine in the history of the FTC.

Joseph Simons, FTC Chairman, via CNN Before the fine was announced, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a response on the platform.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, Facebook Facebook has also agreed to pay an additional $100 million settlement to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
