Another American tourist dies in Dominican Republic

Joseph Allen of New Jersey is the latest American to die while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

His family says Allen had been in good health and traveled to the island nation frequently.

The 55-year-old was staying at Terra Linda Resort in Sosua last week when, friends say, he started complaining about being hot at the pool.

They say he went to take a shower and lie down in his hotel room.

He was found dead the next day.

The cause of his death has not been released.

At least seven other Americans have died in the Dominican Republic in the last year.

Autopsies done in the country concluded most died of a heart attack or respiratory problems. Mark Hurlbut's father died last June in Punta Cana.

SOUNDBITE: MARK HURLBUT JUNIOR, DAD DIED, SAYING: "Had I known then what I know now, I would have fought tooth and nail to have his remains brought back here and have an American autopsy done." Tourist groups have also fallen ill.

Five members of an Oklahoma High School group staying at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino became violently ill after eating at a Japanese restaurant.

And more than 50 Jimmy Buffet fans say they got sick on their annual trip in April.

At least one tested positive for salmonella.
