Trump administration ratchets up attack on Obamacare

It's regarded as former President Obama's signature achievement… But now, his healthcare law - the Affordable Care Act - is under renewed threat from the Trump administration… The Justice Department is throwing its support behind a Texas judge's ruling that the entire law is unconstitutional and should be struck down... citing President Trump's changes to the U.S. tax code to make their case.

Democrats say the move to back that decision marks the latest salvo in Republicans' long-running battle to abolish Obama's 2010 law..

SCHUMER SOT PELOSI SOT It's not the first time Obamacare has faced life-or-death scrutiny in the courts…having survived challenges at the Supreme Court in 2012 and 2015.

A coalition of 20 Republican-led states - including Texas and Florida - brought the latest lawsuit… An appeals court will now rule on whether to uphold the judge's decision - a decision that could impact the health care of millions of Americans.

TRUMP UPSOUND The administration's decision to support the latest ruling reverses it's earlier position that some parts of the law should be preserved….such as an expansion of Medicaid for the poor.

The U.S. government says about 11.8 million consumers enrolled in Obamacare exchange plans in 2018.
