Suit unsuitable: NASA nixes first all-women spacewalk

What should have been a giant leap for womankind has turned into a stumble on the path to equality after U.S. space agency NASA cancelled the first all-female spacewalk due to a lack of a spacesuit in the right size.

Linda So reports.

Suit unsuitable: NASA nixes first all-women spacewalk

(7103) Astronauts Anne McLain and Christina Koch won't be walking in space together after all... NASA has nixed the first ever all-female spacewalk because there's only one suit aboard the International space station that fits both women.

(5168) After her spacewalk with Nick Hague last week, NASA says Anne McLain learned that the medium sized inner part of the spacesuit she wore, fits her best...better than the larger one she had previously thought would work.

But the medium is what fits Koch best too...and there's only one part in that size aboard the space station.

NASA has decided that Koch will be the one to wear it on Friday's spacewalk.

McLain, who'll be replaced by Hagueleague, will remain inside the ISS.

It will be the second spacewalk in a series of three.

The astronauts will continue the work of installing lithium-ion batteries for one pair of the station's solar panels that help keep the ISS up and running.
