Michael Avenatti Arrested Over Domestic Violence Allegations

Attorney Michael Avenatti has been arrested over allegations of felony domestic violence.  The Los Angeles Police Department  confirmed the arrest  on Wednesday and said Avenatti's bail is set at $50,000.

CNN reports Avenatti  posted bail  and left police custody later that day.

Avenatti strongly denies the allegations.  He tweeted : "I want to be clear: I DID NOT commit domestic violence nor have I ever committed domestic violence."  I want to be clear: I DID NOT commit domestic violence nor have I ever committed domestic violence.

I did not strike any woman nor have I ever.

I did not strike my ex-wife in the face nor did I hit anyone else in the face.

I am a decent man & I look forward to being exonerated.

— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) November 15, 2018 Avenatti came into the spotlight earlier this year when he represented Stormy Daniels in a high-profile legal battle against President Donald Trump.

He's also flirted with the idea of running for president in 2020 and has become somewhat of a  public adversary  of the current commander-in-chief.  The  Vermont Democratic Party  canceled Avenatti's scheduled appearances Friday and Saturday over the domestic violence allegations.

The organization's spokesman said all ticket sales will be refunded.  Additional reporting from  Newsy affiliate CNN .
