Trump has backed the need for elections in Ukraine, arguing that President Zelensky is highly unpopular.

He cited a “4% approval rating” for Zelensky and insisted that Ukrainians must decide their leadership.

The statement came as U.S. and Russian negotiators met in Riyadh for the first time since 2022 to discuss ways to end the Ukraine conflict.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has questioned Zelensky’s legitimacy after his term expired in May 2024.

Although Ukraine insists elections cannot be held during wartime, polls suggest declining confidence in Zelensky’s leadership.
