CNN reports that the Senate minority leader fell at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C.

A spokesperson issued a statement on his behalf.

This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner.

He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment, Spokesperson for Mitch McConnell, via statement.

The extent of McConnell's injuries has not been disclosed.

CNN reports that the 81-year-old had another fall in 2019 at his home in Kentucky.

He tripped on his patio and ended up fracturing his shoulder.

McConnell is the longest-serving Republican Senate leader.

According to Senate.gov, he's been "elected to lead the Republican conference nine times since 2006.".

Senate.gov also states that McConnell's been referred to as "the most important Republican since Ronald Reagan" and "the most conservative leader of either party in the history of the Senate.".

CNN reports that his hospitalization comes as Democrats narrowly control the chamber, 51-49.
