PM: We will protect lives through winter strikes

With growing numbers of strikes now planned across December and January, the prime minister says "it wouldn't be right to ask ordinary families to pay another £1000 per year to meet the pay demands of union bosses".

Rishi Sunak adds the government has "accepted in full" advice from independent bodies on public sector pay and will "protect lives" and "minimise disruption" across the winter.
