First statue of African appears on fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square

A new sculpture has been unveiled on the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square.

The 'Antelope' has been created by artist and author Samson Kambalu, and depicts John Chilembwe who defied colonial rule in Malawi in the early twentieth century by wearing a hat.

The sculpture is the first of an African to be displayed in Trafalgar Square.
