Minister admits Tory leadership contest went on ‘too long’

Grant Shapps admits the Conservative Party’s leadership contest “has gone on a bit too long” as there are “so many serious issues facing the country”.

The transport secretary, who supported Rishi Sunak during the campaign says he is “absolutely confident” the party will be brought “back together” whether his preferred candidate or Foreign Secretary Liz Truss becomes the new prime minister on Monday.
