Labour calls for moratorium on rented housing evictions

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves says she welcomes the government’s announcement that rent rises for millions of people living in social housing will be capped next year.

However, Labour is also calling for a moratorium on evictions from privately rented accommodation, as many tenants face the prospect of unaffordable rents during the cost-of-living crisis.

Ms Reeves also called for the minimum wage to become a “real living wage” so that “working people get a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.” Report by Jonesia.
