Who is Melania Trump?

Melania Trump is a businesswoman, ex-supermodel and former First Lady of the United States.

Melanija Knavs was born in April 1970 in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.

As a child, she began modelling her mother’s designs and by aged 16, she began what would go on to become a hugely successful modelling career.

Melania did study architecture, but this stopped as a result of her modelling career taking off.

At 26, she moved to the United States where she met the property mogul, Donald Trump at a party in New York.

In 2005, Melania became Donald Trump’s third wife after the couple married at a ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida.

In 2006, the couple became parents to their son Barron.

It was in the same year that Melania became an American naturalised citizen.

She launched a jewellery and watch brand four years later in 2010, followed by a cosmetics line.

In January 2017, the Trumps moved to the White House, making Melania the second First Lady born outside of the United States, and the only First Lady to become a naturalised United States citizen.

During her time as First Lady, she committed herself to fighting bullying in schools and tackling opioid abuse.

Since leaving the White House, Melania has focussed on business and philanthropy.

She also now prefers to stay away from the cameras.
