Nobody’s ever seen a star this highly magnified, not to mention a galaxy, Dan Coe of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Maryland, via 'New Scientist'.

Earendel was first spotted by the Hubble Space Telescope in March.

Webb's next task will be to help determine what elements make up Earendel and the galaxy in which it resides.

Webb also captured images of the distant Cartwheel Galaxy.

According to 'Time,' NASA hopes the images can shed light on how stars form and help to understand the black hole at the center of the Cartwheel Galaxy.

Astronomers already know that the galaxy's unique shape was caused by a high-speed collision between two galaxies.
