EU Ready to Approve Another $527 Million in Military Aid for Ukraine

EU Ready to Approve, Another $527 Million , in Military Aid for Ukraine.

Al Jazeera reports that defense ministers from the European Union are set to approve an additional $527 million in military aid for Ukraine.

.

On May 17, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stressed the importance of continuing support for Ukraine.

We have to continue to support the Ukrainians with arms, that’s why we will pull 500 million euros more, Josep Borrell, European Union foreign policy chief, via Al Jazeera.

According to Al Jazeera, the additional support will bring the EU's military aid for Ukraine to $2.1 billion.

Borrell also joined Defense Ministers from Germany and Luxembourg in expressing support for Finland and Sweden's requests to join NATO.

The move for Finland and Sweden to join NATO has been vehemently opposed by Russia and Turkey.

.

Turkey reportedly opposes the move because of their perceived inaction against exiled Kurdish fighters.

On May 16, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the two Nordic countries of refusing to extradite "terrorists.".

Turkey has opposition to this.

Turkey says that the two harbor terrorism, that they have supporters of the PKK and the Kurdish nationalists living in their countries.

This is something that throughout the week is going to be a big issue, James Bays, Al Jazeera’s diplomatic editor, via Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera reports that all 30 NATO countries must agree in order for Finland and Sweden to join the alliance.
