ITV News reveals extent of underwater fly-tipping

ITV News has learned that fly-tipping and litter is costing £1 million a year to remove from the UK’s canals, lakes and rivers.

Items like shopping trolleys, asbestos, motorbikes and even cars have been found.

Not only is it expensive and time-consuming to clear up, it poses a huge danger to native fish and wildlife.

ITV News filmed examples on the Walsall Canal where volunteers with the Canal and River Trust have been working hard to improve the area as a highly treasured public facility.
