When Facebook Inc announced that it was changing its name to Meta last month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that this reflected the company’s ambition of “building the metaverse”.

Other big brands such as Microsoft and Epic Games have also said that they will invest in this type of technology.

But, what exactly is the metaverse and how close are we to being a part of it?
