Energy crisis risking ‘thousands’ of jobs, says steel sector

An industry leader has warned that tens of thousands of jobs are at risk in the steel sector if the government does not step in to help it cope with soaring energy prices.

Director General of UK Steel Gareth Stace said: “I wouldn’t risk any one of those 31,000 jobs if I were the prime minister … once plants close, unfortunately in the steel sector, they don’t open again.” Report by Buseld.
