Journalist suggests newsrooms revisit how they count the costs of war

Spencer Ackerman, author of “Reign of Terror” tells John Avlon the media interpretation of what’s happened in Afghanistan since the withdrawal of U.S. troops is “one that makes the calamity the responsibility of ceasing to fight the war rather than the result of 20 years of fighting a disastrous war…that’s a huge problem.” Ackerman also says that relying on military voices to analyze the withdrawal is “a priesthood grading its own performance.”
