Is it safe to get a COVID-19 vaccine right before or after a surgery?

Dr. Steve Feagins, medical director for Hamilton County Public Health, recommends getting a COVID-19 vaccine more than 72 hours on either side of a surgery.

This makes it easier to deduce if later symptoms are side effects of the vaccine or complications developing from the surgery.
