Gareth Southgate calls for England to be ‘ruthless’ against San Marino

Gareth Southgate wants England to be “ruthless” when they face minnows San Marino in their opening World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Thursday. The fixture conjures memories of Davide Gualtieri’s goal inside nine seconds against Graham Taylor’s side in November 1993.

England went on to win the game 7-1, but failed to qualify for the World Cup in the United States.
