A federal prosecutor dropped drunk-driving charges against Bruce Springsteen on Wednesday.

The rock star appeared virtually at Newark, New Jersey court.

He'd initially faced a number of charges, including driving while intoxicated and reckless driving after he was stopped by an officer last November astride his motorcycle on a New Jersey beach, part of a federally-run national park.

The assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case on Wednesday said a sobriety test later showed Springsteen's blood alcohol level was below the legal limit.

The singer recently appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for Jeep, his first commercial ever.

But Jeep subsequently pulled the ad after news broke of the charges against Springsteen.

Springsteen did plead guilty to a lesser charge, admitting he downed two shots of tequila in a park where alcohol consumption is prohibited.

The judge fined the rock music legend $500 for the infraction, plus another $40 in court fees.

Springsteen said he would pay the court immediately.
