NHS boss praises staff for vaccination rollout

The Chief Executive of NHS England has praised staff for rolling out the Covid-19 vaccination whilst still looking after coronavirus patients.

During a visit to a vaccination centre in Coventry, Sir Simon Stevens said "to do the vaccination programme and continue with this winter wave of coronavirus has been an extraordinary achievement".

He also warned against lifting lockdown restrictions too soon.

"We are, fortunately, starting to see reductions in the number of severely ill coronavirus patients in hospital" he said, "but, remember, that even today we've still got more coronavirus patients in hospital across England than we had in the April peak of the first wave of coronavirus last year"".
