NASA technology helps save the world's largest shark

Thousands of “citizen scientists” around the world are helping to save endangered whale sharks by taking photos of them for an online photo identification library.

Co-founded by marine biologist Brad Norman, The Wildbook for Whale Sharks uses NASA technology to identify individual sharks by the patterns on their skin, providing critical information about their population hotspots and migration routes.
