Mayor of Liverpool ‘stepping away’ from role after arrest

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has announced he is “stepping away” from therole after he was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery andwitness intimidation.

Anderson, 62, said it was a “painful shock” when he wasarrested on Friday along with four other men as part of a Merseyside Policeinvestigation into building and development contracts in Liverpool.
