Public WiFi in India: Govt approves scheme, grocery shops can be WiFi points
The government approved a new scheme to set up public WiFi across the country.
The Prime Minister - WiFi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) scheme was cleared by the Union Cabinet on December 10 to set up a framework for proliferation of public WiFi.
Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that even grocery and tea shops could become public data offices which would act as WiFi points.
Users would be able to discover and use PM-WANI compliant WiFi points through an app.
