New Program 2 Feed Hungry

Highest rate of food-insecure older adults in the nation, but advocates say more newcomers, many who have never had to rely on food assistance, are now seeking help...and it's not just seniors...it's families and children who are going hungry.

The state agriculture department, kroger, the dairy alliance and feeding kentucky are teaming-up for a program called, "kentucky cheese cares."

You ca help feed the hungry by buying kentucky dairy farmers' specialty cheese at kroger stores in lexington, richmond, frankfort, e-town and louisville.

Fifty-cents from each unit sold will go to the feeding kentucky food bank network.

East bernstadt dairy farmer ronnie patton is part of the dairy alliance.

"it means this gives us an opportunity to give back to the community through putting the food out, the cheese.

One of our goals when we started our company six-years ago was to give back to the community and understanding that there is a hunger in this state with our neighbors and it was an opportunity for us to get involved.

I hope that it will end hunger, that's our end goal, to end hunger or at least to make a big dent in it and i know it's a tall task, but it's going to take every one of us to get involved and this is a great project to start with."
