Gamer held at gunpoint during livestream

Players watching a live stream by an online gamer experienced real-life action for a change when they saw him being robbed at gunpoint. The incident was captured during a video game live stream by Guilherme Menezes, 25, known online as ‘Guixxm’, from his home in the Guaruja municipality in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo in the evening of Friday, 9 October. The short video shows the moment Menezes concentrates on his game when a person’s hand knocks the headset from his head and places a gun on his forehead. The gamer is apparently shocked but cooperative with the gunman as he stands up and walks off-camera.Menezes spoke with Brazilian news portal ‘G1’ saying he thought it was a joke “but when he saw his [the gunman’s] face, he knew what was happening” before he was taken to another room with his family. The 25-year-old gamer said his biggest concern during the incident was his father, who is of advanced age and has heart problems. The video prompted “one of the people watching me who knew my address” to contact police which arrived at the scene, catching the two thieves before they could even leave the property with the valuables they had stolen.According to G1, both men tried to flee, but only one managed to escape.

Police arrested the second man, a 33-year-old male, who has not been named, in possession of a fake gun.He remains in police custody, however, there have been no further reports on his case as authorities continue to search for the second suspect.Menezes said that “even though the delinquents took money and jewellery” he thinks “the material loss was much less” thanks to the quick response by authorities. The gamer made a post following the incident where he thanked netizens for “saving his and his family’s life”.
