Two Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel created a new record of highest skydive landing at Khardungla Pass.

The two IAF personnel were Wing Commander Gajanad Yadava and Warrant Officer AK Tiwari.

They carried out skydiving from a C-130J aircraft at a high altitude location.

The duo carried out the exercise to celebrate the 88th IAF Day on October 8.

Khardungla pass in Leh is situated at an altitude of 17,982 feet.

"The landing at such an altitude is extremely challenging due to low oxygen levels combined with low air density and rough and inhospitable hilly terrain," said the IAF statement.

The release said that IAF has always been promoting adventure activities for its personnel with an aim to instill the qualities of camaraderie, team spirit and physical and mental courage.

Indian and Chinese troops are engaged in a five-month bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh.

Due to the tensed scenario, IAF has made significant deployment in the region.
