4-year-old rescued after building collapse killing at least 11 in western India

A five-story building collapsed in western India’s Maharashtra and killed at least 11 people.

A four-year-old boy was rescued almost 19 hours after being trapped on August 25.

Tariq Garden, a building located in Mahad city of Raigad district, collapsed on August 24 late evening.

The decade-old building housed more than 40 apartments.

Visuals from the site of the mishap show the small boy being passed on by rescuers who share a brief moment of relief on finding him alive.

Mohammad Bangi, the rescued child, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Three of his family members are still trapped under the rubble.

Bodies of six men and five women have been recovered by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with police officials from Mahad, Shrivardhan and Mangaon divisions.

More than 60 people have been rescued since the operations began.

A few people rushed outside the building to a safe spot after the first three floors collapsed, said Nidhi Choudhari, Raigad District Collector.

She added that a case has been registered against the developer and architect, and strict action would be taken against the responsible.
