Protesters in Belarus remember anniversary of BSSR departure in midst of current government clashes

Protesters in Minsk celebrated the anniversary of the country's departure from the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1991.

Footage from August 25 shows protesters in Minsk's Independence Square celebrate the day, as those who remember the day in 1991 thank current protesters for their 'strength and resoluteness'.

Belarus declared independence from the Soviet Union on 25 August 1991 after a nearly 71-year occupation.
