Where president donald trump will be at the second day of the republican national convention.

This comes after he was officially renominated for president of the united states.

Republicans kicked off the event in charlotte last night -- by formally nominating president trump and vice president mike pence.

It then moved to washington.

The convention was scaled down due to the coronavirus.

Joining us now live over the phone from the republican national convention - right in the middle of it all - alabama republican party chairman terry lathan.

Terry - good morning.

Pause quite an opening night - at a time we're dealing with this new normal.

Terry ... as you know, there are alabamians who are struggling without a job and business owners are having a difficult time mostly because of coronavirus.

What is in this convention that can bring them hope?

Alabama went strong for president trump.

When they see some fellow republicans noticibly absent like former president bush and colin powell, what do you say to those who believe there may be a split in the party?

How is the party showing unity?

President trump - as you know has gotten criticism on his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic- not wearing a mask for quite a while, wanting to open the country too soon some critics sniped.

How do you think alabamians feel overall about the job he's done?

There is a theme every night of the convention.

Tonight's theme is "land of opportunity" led by first lady melania trump.

What do you expect to here this evening?

President is down in national polls.

What kind of bounce you think he will get from this convention?
