Family injured after cooking stoke gas cylinder explodes at campsite

A propane gas tank exploded at a campsite while a family were in the kitchen cooking dinner.

The three adults and two children were preparing food when the blast happened last night (August 18) in Saraburi province, central Thailand.

Neighbors were shocked when they heard the loud explosion before using a fire extinguisher to stop the fire and calling the emergency team for help.

Siranee Yenchit, mother of the family, said she was still shaken by the accident but was thankful that they survived.

She said "All of us are still shocked after the explosion.

We are so grateful that no one died.

''I opened the gas stove to cook fish but while the pan was heating up the tank exploded.'' Siranee daughter, Sirinthip Yenchit, was injured in the blast and immediately taken to the hospital.

The kitchen was covered with grey smoke and black soot while the furniture, ceilings, walls, cupboards, and the appliances were broken.

Police officers that investigated the scene believe one of the valves on the gas cylinder was faulty.

Captain Anna Chan said: "The explosion may have been caused by the loose joint and tank connection.

No deaths were reported at the scene."
