Kashmir will tackle floods with hi-tech dewatering pump stations

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is working to upgrade 49 dewatering pump stations which were damaged during the devastating 2014 floods which caused widespread damage in Kashmir valley.

Now, the government has initiated work on upgrading the dewatering pump stations across Srinagar with the help of World Bank.

JandK Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) is undertaking the project at the cost of Rs 103 crore.

The pumping stations are being installed above flood level so that in future when flood hits, these pumping stations will help dewatering the affected areas.

Since the pumping stations will have latest technology, they will work automatically, but will have control rooms and backup control rooms in order to operate them from safe places.

Locals expressed happiness over the project as they have faced problems when incessant rainfall led to waterlogging in their areas.
