Tropical storm floods roads in Manila, the Philippines

Flooded roads caused heavy traffic in the Philippines capital region during lockdown after a tropical storm hits regions several miles away in the southern part of the country.

Footage shows vehicles driving in waist-deep floodwater along Timog Avenue, Quezon City on August 7.

Security guard Mavelyn Ceralbo Neuda was one of the stranded workers in the morning when the roads were flooded with rains.

She said: "I was feeling bad for the commuters because for sure it will be hard going home especially now public transportation is limited due to the lock down." "It is good that my house is walking distance from my workplace but I would still need to pass through the dirty water." Another footage captured by stranded biker Jason Hullon said that he was on the way home when he was stuck in the flood.

The cyclist said he was on the main road when heavy rain suddenly fell and caused flooding within hours.

He said: "I hope the officials will give more concern to this matter because some motorists were unfortunately stuck in the middle of the intersection.

"They sought help from passersby while others opted to wait for the flood to subside." The heavy downpour brought by the low-pressure area in Catanduanes province, southern Luzon, inundated parts of Metro Manila catching pedestrians and motorists by surprise.

The northern Metro Manila is a low-lying area that is prone to flooding even with little rain.

The flood stranded many motorists and cars which triggered traffic in the area.
