More Than 97,000 American Kids Tested Positive For Covid-19 In Last Two Weeks Of July

More than 97,000 American children tested positive for coronavirus in the last two weeks of July.

The numbers were reported and published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association.

CNN reports that during those two weeks, there was a 40% increase in child cases across the states and cities that were studied.

The age range for children differed by state, with some defining children as only those up to age 14.

The data comes as more states are pushing to reopen schools amid the uncontrolled pandemic.

President Donald Trump has said the virus doesn't pose a large risk to children, however, studies prove otherwise.

In one recent study older children were found to transmit the virus just as much as adults.

At least 86 children have died from COVID-19 since May, according to the new report.

Last week, a 7-year-old boy with no pre-existing conditions became the youngest person to die from coronavirus in Georgia.

In Florida, two teens died earlier this month bringing the state's death toll of children to seven.
